I was under the impression that wordpress is free of charge like blogspot.com.

Courses Plus Student 8,956 PointsYes for wordpress.com you dont need to purchase a custom domain. When you create a site, you will be able to access it through yoursitename.wordpress.com. Its all explained here https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain
