Is there such thing as SVG sprites? Can compass help build and use them?

I'm aware of the benefits image sprites bring to your site's performance. I'm also aware that Compass can help build and use image sprites easily.

BUT

Can image sprites be created for SVGs? Can I use Compass for this? With the small sizes of SVG files, is it worth the trouble of creating a sprite sheet?

Yes, you can assemble SVGs into a sprite, as explained by this wonderful tutorial at CSS Tricks. It looks like Compass doesn't support spriting right now, but you can assemble them via a Grunt task.
