is this really needed

as a student i am wondering can you get a good job without photoshop and illustrator . because i wanted to try web design but one i am not much an artist but more technical.can i just get by using being a web developer for a career or is web design a skill must needed

You don't have to be good at photoshop or things like that. It could help but as long as you know some CSS HTML and Javascript you will be just fine.

Right now Rails gets paid a premium. I like Rails a lot. But I plan to learn PHP too. So I guess start with the one you want to learn and then learn the other too. No harm in that.

Both will get you good jobs.
