Issue with initializing csr beforehand

I initialize the value of csr before putting it into the while loop. I follow every order; however, when I wrote: csr = mSupportReps.poll(); while(csr == null) { playHoldMusic(); }

It appears bummer, but if I initialize csr inside the while loop, it's correct, why is this different?
