Issues with assign .active class to navigation menu

I am trying to assign a class of .active to the active link in a navigation menu. The script works perfectly except for the initial page load. i.e.

mysite.com <---does not work

mysite.com/index.php <-----works

Here is the code:

    <script type="text/javascript">
       $(document).ready(function () {
          var url = window.location;
          $('.nav').find('.active').removeClass('active');
          $('.nav li a').each(function () {
              if (this.href == url) {
                  $(this).parent().addClass('active');
              }
          });
      });
    </script>

Finally got it figured out!

$(document).ready(function () {
          var url = window.location;
          $('a[href="index.php"]').parent().addClass('active');
          $('.nav li a').each(function () {
              if (this.href == url) {
                $('.nav').find('.active').removeClass('active');
                $(this).parent().addClass('active');
              }
          });
