18,814 PointsIt's really going to depend on what you're looking to get from the book. I would elaborate a bit on the skill level and learning style you're looking for, and hopefully some Java folks can help you out.
I haven't gone through this book personally, but I'm partial to the 'learn the hard way' style of teaching. If you're interested in trying out that method, you can go through the first fifteen chapters for free online.
