okay Garrett Bauer, what you need to do in step one is set you private fields in the constructor. think of constructors as builders the put together or set an object up in this case. so to do this:

public class User {

private String mFirstName;
private String mLastName; // these are known as field variables, or more commonly Member Variables

  public User(String firstName, String lastName) {
    // TODO: Set the private fields here
   // to set the field we pass it through a constructor that takes parameters and set the field to the required
  //information(parameters)

  }
}

i hope this can make sense. if you need help past this question let me know and i will continue to help you

For the 2nd challenge I typed in what you show (ie. private String mFirstName...) and got the following message when I checked my work.

Bummer! Did you initialize the mFirstName field in the constructor?

Can you help me?
