Hiya there! I dunno much about Spring framework, java based framework for web development, but i do know about JavaScript. Java is one mature and enterprise language. Its really stable and powerful. But when it comes to web development, nothing can beat JavaScript. JavaScript is native to web browsers. And its really versatile as well. JavaScript is exist on servers, front-end including UIs, desktop apps, mobile apps and everywhere else. Its eating the world right now. Its everywhere.

I'd say , as a beginner, start with Front-end Track in tracks section on Treehouse. And you could even go for Designing Track parallely to Front end. Also you mentioned you are interested in creating UIs and your best bet is either React or Angular. Learning either framework will let you create rich , robusts, reusable and dynamic UI components. Good Luck!

Happy Coding!
