General Discussion

Jr. Developer to Senior Developer

Just an open discussion because a lot of people may be pondering on these questions.

how much experience do you need to consider yourself a junior developer?

Does a college degree in CS automatically qualify you as a jr. Developer ?

If so, what about the developers who don't have a degree?

If you are a junior developer when can you label yourself as a senior developer?

How do you know when you are job ready if you just started with treehouse?

No college degree qualifies you as a developer. Degrees are almost useless for development when you have sites like Treehouse. I read an interesting article the other day about the majority of CS students graduating and trying to get a job in the valley. Most of them could not get hired anywhere since the employers wanted to see work vs a degree. Would you hire someone with a degree or the high school dropout with an amazing portfolio? Most companies want to see a portfolio and that you can actually develop.

The biggest differences IMO of junior and senior devs was covered in depth in this stack overflow question.

It is worth a read.

Thanks for that! It is good that you do not have to spend loads of money on the uni degree but only work hard and develop.

Thanks, ill check it out.

I know that this isn't related but Can you show me how you got your profile picture to be a gif?
