Just a bit of clarification

So this video explains that you can download a server that is pre-coded for you so that you can test your AJAX code because normally if you ran in without a server side piece of code AJAX requests would not run? Is that right?

That's right, the purpose of AJAX is making requests to the server and then handling the server's response to them without refreshing the entire page.
