176 PointsJust a general question from a beginner.
I have just started my coding journey and I think this is a lot of fun so far and love learning from the videos. Does everyone have to hit the pause button on the video a lot to keep up with the typing? I am understanding some of the concepts but I am just not the most graceful on the keyboard or my mind just can't catch up. I can only assume this will get better as I progress in the lessons.

Dino Chiappini
176 PointsLOL I am pausing just curious if anyone else experienced the same thing when they first started out.

1,337 PointsIf you want to type along with the video, I guess there's no way around pausing every now and then unless you've had a lot of ladyfriends. :) I can recommend trying to just watch all the way through the videos (one at a time of course), and then do the typing. If you have a hard time remembering everything you're taken through in the videos, you can have a piece of paper and a pen (yep, they still exist) in front of you when watching and jot down keywords (like, the tags and concepts you're taken through), and then try to remake what was shown in the video after you're done watching it. I believe you'll memorize things faster that way. :)

3,191 PointsI still pause, rewind, etc. a bunch to this day with almost every video. As Lasse mentioned above, I take a lot of notes via pen and paper, as I find (and believe it's been proven) that that helps to remember things more than typing does. Another thing I do, which makes the whole process easier, is use the Treehouse app on my iPad to stream the videos while I have my text editor open on my computer. This saves a lot of time and headache with minimizing windows, etc. If you have an iPad/tablet/second screen, I highly recommend this to make the learning process a tiny bit more efficient.

176 PointsI know you can find the app on Itunes but I only have a Nook. Can I find it for that?

Dino Chiappini
176 PointsThank you. I have 2 monitors and I play the video in one and have the text editor running in the other. I think I just need to brush up on my typing some. When I get back on tomorrow I will try and just watch the video and take notes first.

14,066 PointsGoing off of this, has anyone else experienced the issue of pausing a video for minutes at a time, then resuming the video only to have it freeze 15 seconds later with the only recourse of refreshing and finding where you left off?

Jonathan Warrick
3,191 PointsI've experienced it a lot in the browser, but haven't had this problem with the app.

166 PointsYes Kyle, This happens to me all the time.

Dino Chiappini
176 PointsI have not experienced that myself Kyle.

15,645 PointsI'm not sure if it's well known but you can press the "spacebar" to pause/resume videos which I find really handy.
My usual Treehouse flow is:
- start watching
- spacebar to pause
- alt tab to change windows and test it out
- alt tab back to Treehouse
- spacebar to resume
- repeat
I remember much more if I'm trying things out as I learn them.

176 PointsThats pretty much how my first session went. I will try out a couple different things tonight.

176 PointsThank you all for the advice. I may have to step away from my coding dreams for a little longer. I just got done renovating my townhouse from a flood that happened in and August and when I awoke this morning I discovered another pipe burst. Feeling more determined than ever to learn though.
