Just A Suggestion: Watch the WordPress Template Hierarchy Course Before You Watch This One.

After watching this course I felt it would have really helped me understand why I was doing a lot of things in building a template. Think you might find it helpful, as well.

Since you will be working with the hierarchy whenever you build a template, understanding it before you build one seems like a logical first step.
