Learning group

Hi, all Treehousers!

I've had this idea for a while now to build a little group (3 - 10 persons) and help each others to learn new skills together. I personally have had many situations when I wished I had someone who could help me to clear my mind of some confusing topic. I believe everyone who is learning new skills has had these kind of moments.

So I'd love to build a little group of motivated web designers/developers and we could help and motivate each others to learn. We could also build something together and learn at the same time. Solve all the problems that will come along and get over them. Somebody knows a lot about Javascript and JQuery and the other might know all html and css tricks. One could master PHP. We could share our knowledge and grow together.

I think the focus would be on front-end development at least at this moment. It's probably the most common area to start with. So please answer this topic if you're even a little bit interested. I mean, what you can loose...

If you want to contact me you can do it by adding me on hangouts. Most of the people recommended this so we'll use it.

My gmail: xthemedesigns@gmail.com

Happy learnings to all of you!

The idea sounds fantastic! Maybe treehouse could even open a group area to help organize the projects! I am very interested!

I have been hoping treehouse will add a little bit of social networking like that for a while now.

It's nice to hear that you're interested. I add contact info to the first post so you can contact me if you want to.

That'd be great for people who are in need of works to use for a portfolio as well and are stuck on inspiration or just finding things to make.

Fantastic idea.

That's also a really nice thing. It's always good to add things to the portfolio. And with a little bit of "crew" we could do little bit larger projects.

If you're interested in to contact me and join the group I added contact info to the first post.

Sure, I am interested. I have heard that Skype is not secure, that it is too easy for someone to hack into your computer when you are using Skype. A more secure option is the Gmail Hangouts. You can do video chats there. My Gmail email: proteanstar@gmail.com

Check it out if you are not familiar with Gmail Hangouts.

Hangouts in Gmail

Hangouts in Gmail makes it easy to communicate with the people you care about! In addition to being able to message people and have face-to-face video calls.

Hangouts supports the current version and the 2 previous major releases of the operating systems listed below on a rolling basis.

Mac OS X
Windows
Chrome
Ubuntu and other Debian based Linux distributions

Specifications for sending and receiving messages

You can have a group Hangout with up to 100 people.

Requirements and specifications for video calls

There are a few specifications and limitations of video calls that you should be aware of:

Video calls can have a maximum of 10 participants.
There's a 150 minute check-in to make sure you're still there.
You need to have a broadband connection to the Internet.

If you have a Google Apps for Business or Google Apps for EDU, you may be able to have a video call with up to 15 participants.

Thank you for your recommendation. As almost everybody else agreed with you I decided to switch to hangouts. I also added you to the group.

Great idea, I'd be very interested but im still a little "green" so i'm not sure if i would be any useful to anyone.

Anyway tell me if that would be ok with you, also i second the google hangouts idea, its easier to manage a group than skype and its a lot lighter.

Hi, that's totally fine to me. The point to this group is to learn together and to help each others. You can be part of this group if you want to.

I decided to switch to hangouts as almost everyone wanted to use hangouts. I added my Gmail account to the first post so if you want to, you can add me.

Hopefully we'll see on hangouts! :)

I am jumping on the google hangouts idea as well. Not a fan of skype.

I switched to hangouts as almost everyone wanted to use it. So now you can add me on hangouts if you're still interested. I changed my contact info in the first post to Gmail address.

Seems a good idea I am in. My skype id: imchandanksah

Sorry, but most of the people wanted to use hangouts so I decided to switch to hangouts. If you're okay with that you can add me. You can find my contact info in the first post.

I think this is actually a rather awesome idea. It's really not easy to teach others how to work together as a team for a project. Actually doing it, I think, would be the best way of doing so.

You can count me in.

Also on the hangouts bandwagon. Much easier to manage. We should definitely figure out some good "first meeting" times and see what we can get going.

Yeah I switched to hangouts as almost all of you wanted to use it. That's fine for me. I also added you in hangouts.

We'll see there.
