LESS?

I was just curious as to why there are SASS topics here but I don't see any LESS courses.

I think Sass is the more popular compiler, so it would generally be a more common skillset to see on job listings. They might do a Less lesson later, but if you understand one, you could probably pick up the other one fairly easily.

I've been with a few online learning groups like this and they all lean toward Sass rather than LESS. I am not sure why exactly. I'd like to hear it from someone who has a solid grasp of both as to why Sass seems to be the preferred choice.

In technology popularity is not a function of technical superiority. It's a function of hype either through marketing or social networking buzz. The modern history of technology is replete with tales of technically inferior products that won out.

OK so its not that Sass is superior because it offers more function its just a matter of whats caught on?

Yep for that most part.

How similar are they? I mean if I take the Sass course here will I translate fairly easy to LESS if I chose to go that route? I mean I have some experience with LESS but its very basic. Nested coding style, a few mixins but nothing very deep... yet. If they are similar enough I'll just jump in to the Sass course here versus waiting to see a LESS course although given its wider acceptance maybe I ought to learn Sass anyway just to look nice on the resume.

For the most part the concepts are fairly similar. There are of course syntax differences and some feature differences.

This Treehouse featured video makes, I think, a great start for anyone looking build an understanding of per-processors like Sass, less, and Stylus. I found it enlightening.

Fair enough, I vaguely understand LESS enough to write nested and import other files. the more complex bits elude me so I suppose picking one over the other for me is moot. Thanks for the reply.

I would also like to learn LESS - know more about it

Also wondered if there was potentially going to be a LESS component in the near future. I presume this may be a possibility, since the SASS component is relatively new :)

Hopefully, they will surprise us with a new release before NY or at least beginning of Jan, I've been waiting for LESS section for about 2-3 months now.....
