Very close! Instead of adding the width property just add the 300px next in flex as the flex-basis value. Flex-basis is what sets the initial value for the item.

.row {
  display: flex;
}

.column {
  flex: 1 300px;
}

alternatively you could declare it separate from flex

.row {
  display: flex;
}

.column {
  flex: 1;
  flex-basis : 300px;
}
