Linux for Web Development

Does anyone here use linux for web development? How satisfied are you? What distro do you use?

Last night, I dropped my expensive, relatively new MacBook Pro with the lid open. It was probably only four feet in the air, but it hit a coffee table on the way down and now seems to be inoperable.

I'm thinking about replacing it with a linux machine. My understanding is that Illustrator wouldn't work for linux, but is there anything else I should be worried about?

Hi Matthew,

Very sorry to hear about your MacBook

I use Linux for all my computing needs.

I am very satisfied running CentOS, however you can get the same results running Ubuntu/Xubuntu. I run Illustrator through WINE (Windows Emulator) and it works about 95% as expected. I have been working in a linux environment for 4 years as DevOps (With only a little Dev in DevOps ;) ). If you have any specific questions or would like some more info feel free to ask, I'm always happy to help where I can.

Hope this helps!
