Long Page Scrolling / Parallax Scrolling / General Page Scrolling Effects

I've been fascinating by scrolling effects on web pages, and I've been meaning to try experimenting and implementing my own to really get comfortable with creating such designs/experiences.

For example, how did Rdio implement its long page scrolling? Basically, as you attempt to scroll, it shows you full length content and scrolls smoothly to that content.

I've been basically just looking Github repos, page sources and, also, at the following:

And for initiating animations when scrolling and elements become in view (not sure which one is best):

Does anyone have any tips or advice as to how to get started or how I can best proceed? Thanks!
