Looking to create an intro for new users using jQuery & JavaScript and setting some Cookies.

Alright, I am just toying around with this idea. I want to create a 'Tour' on a page that will point out how to navigate a member page using JavaScript and jQuery and so it only appears the first time, set a cookie so the tour isn't repeated every time. Anybody have recommendations, ideas / insights on how to achieve this?
