Magento Wordpress integration advice

Hello!

I'm about to join a project that wants to use Magento to sell a large inventory. The site would have a lot of user-generated content (such as articles, forum, etc). But then there will also be a large marketplace of consumer goods.

My questions:

  1. If you have experience with Magento, do you have any advice getting started? Also, is it easy to integrate with Wordpress?

  2. What are your thoughts on Magento Community vs Magento Enterprise?

  3. I have a good amount of experience with Wordpress/ front-end development (thank you Treehouse!). Do you think this is a project I'll be able to figure out on my own or is this a much larger undertaking than I am excepting?

I apologize if any of my questions are vague or confusing. Obviously these are hypotheticals because I haven't started the project yet. Just trying to wrap my head around what might be coming.

Thanks for any advice! Jenn

E-commerce is always a very large undertaking do not underestimate it. That being said if you are joining a project I assume there will be someone there who has some experiance with it. Even so products like Magento make it alot easier to work with.

I don't do much work with Wordpress so I don't know how it intergrates but Wordpress has plugins for everything so even if it does not intergrate there will be an option somewhere.

Lastly do not underestimate yourself simply by wishing to try this project you prove you have the dedication to see it through. I would say go for it but know what you are getting yourself into and double check everything. Goodluck!

Hi Jenn,

  1. I suggest looking towards http://leveluptuts.com/tutorials/magento-community-tutorials for some Magento tutorials. You can integrate Magento and WordPress with the FishPig module (http://fishpig.co.uk/)

  2. The Magento community is huge which is why working in Magento is so good. There are tons of documentation and available modules/plugins to use.

  3. Magento is large, especially compared to WordPress but that doesn't mean you won't be able to get to grips with it. View the tutorials I gave you above (1.) and start working on a Magento site on your local machine. It's a great skill to have.

Good luck.
