.main-nav floated right (CSS Layout Basics)

In the video (Creating a Horizontal Navigation with Floats), when Guil floats the main-nav to the right, the navigation list items are stacked on top of each other. When I did this, I had a different result. My navigation floated to the right of its parent container and appeared correctly (side-by-side) without being reversed. I'm confused as to why Guil had a different result when floating his .main-nav.
