MAMP Issue - Apache server green, MySQL server no light at all but process for it is running in task manager

I have tried every single answer to this issue and have had no luck. I think it is also a major issue with why I can't get the SMTP to work correctly when trying to get emails from wordpress when it's being hosted locally.

So far I have done:

Full uninstall, delete all left over directories and files from the uninstall, reinstalled.

Removed/renamed the log files in the php directory.

Added an exception in the firewall for all ports in use by MAMP.

Closed MAMP and killed any running processes related to it.

Changed the port for MySQL to something else.

Changed the directory where the database is located.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.
