CSS CSS Layout The CSS Box Model Margin

The way I understand it, the margin is the outermost layer of the box model that surrounds your content. In order for the "auto" feature to function correctly you must assign a width to your content (the footer in this case) so the browser understands what width to keep centered in the window.
