Media Queries vs Bootstrap

If i know Media Queries, do i have to use bootstrap? Does using bootstrap slow down the site?

Bootstrap does have classes that utilise Media queries but they're completely independent of each other. You don't need to know Bootstrap to use Media queries. :-)
