Multi thread programming

I came across the term "multi thread programming". What does that mean?

its the ability of a central processing unit (CPU) or a single core in a multi-core processor to execute multiple processes or threads concurrently. so multiple processes at the same time.

I know there is a lot of newbies out there in "Treehouse-land" who may be wondering:

"Why does Fynn (in his answer) use both "threads" and "processes" in his answer --aren't they the same thing?
