My arrow is the same Shape as Ashley's, but it is repeating its self like a line, as it were.

I am not able for the element to consist of just one arrow-head

Without having access to your screenshot (link appears to be expired) I can say I had the same problem. When I dragged the arrow across, I got a line of arrows instead of the one I was looking for.

What I didn't realize was that I was actually extending the line, not selecting and copying the object (the arrow) like I wanted to do. Deselecting the line and reselecting the arrow works for me - just make sure you're selecting the object, not the line.

Hi Aaron,

that's strange... did you draw out a smallish line and then select the arrow? How come the rectangle in the top left seems to be selected?

Also have you tried not drawing anything and then simply going to the arrow and holding and dragging it on to the canvas, that appears to do the same thing.

Hi, Aaron. Here is why.

The way that tutor did is to change the stroke pattern! So it's normal that the arrow is repeating along the line if the line you draw is too long.

Here is my way to do this, draw a line, then click the 'stroke' which is on the left side of the stroke weight changing menu on the option bar. In the drop down menu, there is a arrowhead option, choose an arrow inside it.
