My first website SFTP upload

So I am trying to upload my first website. I am using media temple for my hosting company but I bought my domain name at godaddy.com. I have managed to connect to my grid server using filezilla and have uploaded my files to domains/myDomainName but when I try to load my site on my browser I just get some godaddy.com advertisement site. Any advice as to what I need to do to get my site up?

Have you pointed your nameservers to Media Temple?

well I have made a connection to media temple but I don't know if I have pointed my nameservers to media temple

When you signed up for your media temple account you should have received some information with their name servers. I believe they are:

NS1.MEDIATEMPLE.NET
NS2.MEDIATEMPLE.NET

In your GoDaddy account, you'll need to change the name servers to point there. More info
