Naming your files .JS vs .JSX and it's requirements else where?

So, I've been wondering after taking Jim's course and after separating the files into separate directories. What extensions are you guys using? .JS or .JSX? I find that if I use .js' import React, {Component} from react; always has to be included for that component to be in scope. But, in other examples I do not see this as the case. Is it perhaps a setting in one of my npm modules? This occurred when doing a stateless function.
