Need advice for building an E-learning portal : What to Use ?

I am soon going to be undertaking a project from a client to build an E-learning portal, something similar to Udemy, Lynda, Coursera and so on. My problem is that till now I have only been using Wordpress to build websites and I think I need to discontinue that for this project. I know HTML, CSS, Javascript and a fair bit of PHP but personally I do not want to develop this website using PHP.

My question to everyone who is way more experienced than me is that what technology should I use to complete this project. I have around 6-8 months to come out with a functional prototype and around a year to complete it. Keep in mind that for any server side language you suggest apart from PHP, I will have to start learning it from literally nothing. At this point, with my limited knowledge, I have nodejs and Ruby on my mind from which I need to choose. But please do mention if you think there are better options.

My opinions are completely based on what I have read here and there and what I feel. Honestly I am a humble beginner and not at all equipped with the knowledge to make an informed decision for now. Hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks a lot for showing interest :)
