Need assistance please? My "Android" synthax isn't very clear to me?

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what their asking me to do here, please excuse my ignorance!

FunFactsActivity.java
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.TextView;

public class FunFactsActivity extends Activity {

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_fun_facts);

        // Declare our View variables and assign them the Views from the layout file
        TextView factLabel = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.factTextView);
        Button showFactButton;
    }
}

Show fact button variable using the find view by id () method like the view text above it, the id for the button is shownfact button, don't forget to cast a button with (button)

So its simply saying to initialize the showFactButton. This button has been defined in a layout XML file, so you now need to "hook it up" in code, so you can work with it. This is simply done in the same way as the TextView in the example they provided:

Button showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.showFactButton);
