need help with new list items.

Is this correct? exercise says no and wont let me go further.

it's correct, but i think a common pitfall of this exercise is users adding the link element. The instructions ask for list items, and to not have them linked. If you change the code to what's shown below, you should pass:

 <ul>
          <li>Portfolio</a></li>
          <li>About</a></li>
          <li>Contact</a></li>
 </ul>
