Need Python help for indexes within a for loop

Currently trying to solve this task but having a hard time figuring out this portion:

"If the character at index 0 of the current item is the letter "a", continue to the next one. Otherwise, print out the current member." Example: ["abc", "xyz"] will just print "xyz".

Not sure how to write the proper code to get the index of a character within a list item.

breaks.py
def loopy(items):
    for item in items:
        if item.index('a') = 0:
            continue
        else:
            print(item)

To take first sign from item, you must use item[0]

def loopy(items):
    for item in items:
        if item[0] == 'a':
            continue
        else:
            print(item)

Thanks a lot Andrey, appreciate the help.
