Networking

So I've finished another business deep dive and I realize that there's some sort of a line running through them all, a kind of theme almost: Networking. They encourage us to get out there in the real world to connect to like minded individuals who we can learn from, inspire, or collaborate with. But I'm curious and I wanted to ask the community about this: Is networking purely physical? Is there a place for virtual connections that have no ties to our physical selves?

On a related note, does Team Tree House plan on implementing something greater than just a forum to bring members closer together? Even if it's something as simple as a Private Messaging system or a Profile Commenting system, I'd like to see it happen because I don't know too many places in my small community where i can connect to other designers and developers. It'd be nice to have that here.

I agree that I would like to see more ways to network with each other. Something that takes treehouse to the next step. Maybe introduce group dynamics that could some how allow members to collaborate with each other on a new set of badges. Maybe simulate a real life working environment or a telecommute experience.

I love the forum, but would like to see it expanded slightly. Not in a traditional sense necessarily. I feel like forum participation should be much higher than it is.

To not come across as negative, I love the simplicity of the forum and the communication with the treehouse staff. It is unlike anything I have ever been a part of before.

After 2 weeks I can honestly say that I am addicted. I no longer spend entire evenings watching TV and browsing the web for randomness. Once the kids are tucked in bed it is treehouse time. I fire up the dual display and get to work.

I have never felt so motivated to better myself.

Indeed =) Treehouse is beyond amazing and, like you said, I find that my tv time has decreased exponentially in the last month and I'm not complaining. It's a great feeling knowing that I'm not living like the rest of the zombies and actually investing myself into something. Especially if it's the future of technology. =)

Groups would definitely be nice. I'd love to put the whole Web Developer + Web Designer strengths and weaknesses thing to practice. I just find it somewhat strange that the only way to connect with others learning here is either on the forums or by connecting elsewhere online like in our social sites.
