Android

No Build SDK Available

When I set up and start eclipse I get an error saying the software is out of date so I install the available updates but when I try to start a new android app no Build SDK is available and I cannot click finish to create my app. The software does not have this problem on my Mac but I do not want to design for Android on a Mac. I want to design iOS on Mac and Android on PC because that is the way it should be done.

Sorry you're having trouble! Our bundle is a bit out of date and will be refreshed soon. It's especially issue-prone on Windows. I would suggest downloading and using the bundle from the Android developer's site as per this Forum thread: https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/android-lesson-cant-run-initialsetupbat

However, you will find that MANY professional Android developers develop on a Mac. I must wholeheartedly disagree that it "should be done" on a PC. :-) I've developed on both platforms and will never go back to Windows as things run much quicker and more smoothly on my Mac. The only reason I need a Windows machine at all is for rooting devices, but even that can often be done on a Mac!

Thanks Home Froggy I somehow fixed the problem anyway. I'm having a blast with crystal ball but I'm still a long way from programming my own Scifi-Fantasy MMORPG. You guys should do a class on introductory game programming. Just a suggestion since that's what I dream of doing. I bet Mike the Frog could teach that one after all he did do a mean customized crystal ball and all. Yes Macs are cool but it just seems like a sin or something to do android on a mac. Also I just built a $6500 PC and I'm broke so I want to use my PC instead of my Mac. Thanx for all the help.

Haha: "seems like a sin or something to do android on a mac." I know what you mean, but my Mac is a wonderful computer. Check out the Google I/O videos on Android some time - the whole Android team uses Macs. :)

Suggestion noted about gaming. We don't have anything specific planned right now, but it comes up enough that we're definitely seeing how we can pursue it.
