General Discussion

Not a question .. just sorely disappointed. I was expecting just a weeeee bit more!

Ok, so this morning I finish my first track. First time through a complete track from start to finish whereas up until now I've gottan half tracks completed and bounced around to kind of fill in gaps of knowledge and explore other things.

So what's the problem?

Well... if you finish a quiz you get a pop up with some flair and a good job and all that.

If you finish a stage you get a big pop up with a gold star and woohoo 30 points and all that.

Great...

When you finish a COURSE, you'll get a random video from the Escape saga. Awesome

Finish a track however and ... ppffbbbbttt.... nothing.

What gives?? No track name badge. No "first track" badge. No flashy additional pop up and congrats... NOTHING lol.

I know I know, the accomplishment/journey is its own reward and yes, this whole post is rather tongue in cheek but come on guys, really? Like... when you were almost ready to roll the whole shebang out was it a Friday and you just said "ah to heck with it"? I mean, finishing a track is an accomplishment and I can only describe my reaction upon seeing nothing at the completion of the final task of the final stage of the final course of the track as being akin to Ralphie's face when he saw the bunny costume that his Aunt had sent him.

Let's go, devs. Get on the ball and make some cool track completion bells and whistles!!

With love,

Huck - :sunglasses:

Congrats on completing the track. I just picked up a box of girl scout cookies if that would make you feel better. They aren't caramel delites unfortunately. Haha j/k

Thin mints are where it's at dude... are they thin mints? Tell me they're thin mints.

When you finish a track it says completed and awards you and extra 200 points. And trust me that the staff here can see your accomplishment. You also should get an email from them congratulating you on the completion of the track. And at the end they usually congratulate you for getting to the end (Even though it's not direct). Also, your failing to see the self accomplishment part of it. You should be happy for overcoming the challenges and supposed to have learned a lot. I see no reason why all of the above would be disappointing.

Happy Coding - Devin

Um...

I know I know, the accomplishment/journey is its own reward and yes, this whole post is rather tongue in cheek.

So just to be clear...

I see what you mean, I didn't realize it until i clicked your So just to be clear.

P.S: Don't you think it would be kinda cool if they allowed you to insert pictures in your posts like Andrew below, i'm not sure if they can be coded in, but i have a cool GIF of Kenneth Love doing a table flip and I thought it would be cool if I could use it for those problems i'm really stumped on. What are your guys opinions?

Cheers,

Devin Scheu

I'm for it.

Devin Scheu

heh, it's all good.

And I'm honestly not sure if you're being sarcastic here with your question about "wouldn't it be cool... ?" but just in case you're not being sarcastic and don't know... you actually can insert images into your posts by using the following syntax

![](image url goes in here)

And it produces and image in your post like so...

Ooo... someone means business. What ever shall we do??

Day: Saved.

Yeah, I thought there was a way, funny image post btw.

ABSOLUTELY!

I worked through the entire of Front-End Development Track. I got to the end of the final course. And I was excited, because of course this is going to a be big deal. Here I was, at the end of a journey that I had be on for weeks. This is the time when the CEO was going to call me and say "Peter, well done!" This is when all the CSS and JavaScript glory on the planet would converge and explode in animated glory on my screen. This is the when Nick Pettit reaches through my screen and gives me a high 5. This is when Andrew Chalkley presents me with cupcakes.

But nope. Nothing. I thought it was time for celebration. But nope.

So Huck, since no one else will say it, good job mate! -pops champagne-

hahaha I never saw that thread. Thanks for the champagne my friend and kudos to you for your fine achievement! Mine was a much smaller track(Learn Wordpress) but I hope to also finish the Web Design course soon enough (half way through it) after I bust out this How to Start a Business track and a couple of other business courses. And then, sky's the limit!

Thanks again!

Cheers,

I don't have cupcakes so hopefully this will do!

I'll also pass on the disappointment - we want you to feel awesome at the end!

hahaha that killed me. Class act Andrew Chalkley.

Cheers,

Huck - :sunglasses:

Hahaha! Well, color me content!

I take back what I said and am at peace!

PS: Andrew Chalkley perhaps the production team might put together a congratulatory video at the end of a track where, in the video, there are a few teachers celebrating with cupcakes. (and 1 in 10,000 Treehouse Students gets cupcakes mailed to them upon track completion).

I agree with Peter a cool and funny end video to each course would definitely brighten any body up. (Maybe with cupcakes?) :)

you should loose points for having a negative attitude! No star for you!

Disappointment does NOT a negative attitude make. In fact, the bump in 2k points in a little over a week should indicate my current attitude(Hint: rhymes with penthusiastic). Also, you know... the tongue-in-cheek thing(beginning to think that's a little known figure of speech anymore)

I'm over the hill excited and love this site and all the work they do. Hence my desire to give feedback which is precisely what I'm doing here. So...

  1. Gave feedback
  2. Did so in a lighthearted manner (a Christmas Story reference? c'mon!)
  3. Signed with Love

Our definitions of a negative attitude differ greatly lol.

p.s. I think you're just mad at me because I don't think the world will be entirely mobile in two years :p (<--- see? Joke :) )

China will be all mobile and india trailing along. and many of those people come here for education and jobs, so they will replace our desktop culture with their ways of using technology! maybe not in two years, but you will see! >:-(

maybe not in two years, but you will see! >:-(

HAHAHA .. I KNEW IT!!

That one bit was funny though. The phrasing.

they will replace our desktop culture with their ways of using technology

Makes it sound like you're awaiting your overlord masters hahaha. Ahhhh that was funny.

Anyway, I CAN envision a future where everything is mobile... but that future doesn't exist any time soon as I see it. Maybe when I'm old and grey, but not "soon".

Anyway..cheers, bro!
