HTML HTML Forms Choosing Options Checkboxes

not clear on why we need a value

if the name is what gets submitted to php why do we need a value for checkboxes?

1 Answer

Hi Johnny,

If you had a list of checkboxes which provided answers you may wish to pass through the value when the selection is checked, e.g.

Select all the different languages you know:

  • PHP
  • Python
  • Ruby
  • ...etc

By passing the value through you're able to easily identify which have been checked on submission of the form.
