nothing shows up when i preview the code, even with no edits.

I am using Safari, same as instructor

If i can see your code it would better to answer but make sure that

  1. your file is named index.html
  2. make sure you closed all the div or any other tags.
  3. try to open your browser first and then drag your file into it.
