overflow for margin collapse

When i was building a simple website, I had a bit of white space in the top so I searched online and used overflow-y:hidden. Later on there was white space in the right so I used overflow-x:hidden. Both of these fixed the solution both times. In times where the margin collapses, is this solution ok to use? or are there times where this is not good?

cheers

I'm not quite sure what you mean - do you have a link to a workspace so we can inspect the code and take a look?

I may be being thick but I'm in bed, ready to sleep lol, just doing some last minute posting :P
