Design Illustrator Foundations How to Draw in Illustrator The Pencil Tool

Parts of my pencil drawing disappear when I trace over the original Spaceman drawing by Mat - why?

Hey everyone,

I've had to start over twice when using the pencil tool to trace Mat's original spaceman drawing, because pieces of the drawing have disappeared when I attempt to hide Mat's spaceman in order to fully view my trace (when I tried to fix it through a series of undos, I lost the entire drawing - and couldn't get it back).

I'm attempting to redo the pencil tracing, but I've run into the same problem - in that, once again, pieces of my traces disappear when I hide the original drawing by Mat in order to more easily view my tracing.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?

Thanks -

Are you creating a new layer before tracing the picture? It could be that somehow part of your trace is attached to the original. So when you turn that layer off part of your pencil tracings are removed. I would look in that direction. Because if they come back when you make the spaceman visible again, then that's somehow your problem.
