PDO is not connecting to the Database. Please help

I am using MAMP as a local server. I downloaded the database.sql from the tutorial here and imported it into my phpMyAdmin database. In connection.php file in my editor, the code I have written is:

$db = new PDO("sqlite".__DIR__."/database.db");

var_dump($db);

I cannot see anything when I preview this in the browser by typing "inc/connection.php". Can anyone please help, What am I doing wrong here.??
