Percentages. Treehouse staff please help!

I'm finding for me that its just guess work and what will actually look right. Although it will take longer i know but i still still still cannot understand how these 18 and 24 percentages are found... (i've had many a long night) ;-)

Whats the calculation? how did he get 18 and 24%???

Did he just decide to use these at random? I cannot find a calculation that results in 18% and 24% also i cannot find how its based on parent container? there are no 18% or 24%..

It definitely seems like he chose these at random to make his point about the benefits of using percent over px
