PhoneGap and jQuery mobile

Hi, I want to build a simple app with jQuery Mobile (or PhoneGap) to find restaurants and plates in the area, using the locu API. What do you guys recommend? I'm new in mobile development but I wanna do some cool stuff with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

Phonegap looks awesome! Been wanting to learn more about it.

I think jQuery mobile would only give you ui tools.
