Platte items sticking to top left corner?

In the video, Ben easily places the text views onto the screen in the graphical layout and I've been able to do this in other projects. However, ever since I've started this project I have been unable to place anything whatsoever onto the gui. It simply sticks to the top left screen. Any thoughts?
