Hi Fellow Treehousers
I have had an idea to recreate an online workout log, for my chosen sport and needing to know which programming languages I need to learn to bring my idea to fruition. After doing some research, I came across this website: http://weightxreps.net/ which is similar to what I want to do.
The main goals of this online log is to make it easy to note down what was done in your session, and to track and analyse the sessions already completed, as a coaching tool.
I am very inexperienced with Web Development and I am halfway through the Front End Web Development Track here on Treehouse. As I do not know the possibilities of other online languages, I need your help to point me in the right direction.
I predict that I will need to know mainly front end for the creation of the website, make it responsive for mobile phone users (who would be the main audience logging workouts), however, I feel that I would need to know some Back End languages for storing data and representing the data in the form of tables and graphs.
Is my thought process here logical?
Another idea I just thought of is that would it be easier to represent data as excel files? How would I begin to learn this?
Any comments are highly appreciated, and I hope that you will lead me to the direction I need to go with this, as I am super excited about this idea.
Anyway, thank you for your time.
Alvin

What you wish to accomplish requires the use of a Back End language, as you suspected. The data will probably need to be stored in a database, also. To answer you last question here, data from a database can be exported in an excel readable format, if you so desire. I don't think that would be necessary though.
The choice for the Back End language is pretty much yours. You can do what you describe in all of them. Extensive material can be found right here on treehouse for PHP and Ruby. Take some basic courses and see which one you like better and dive in. If you get stuck you can come to the forums to ask for help. You should first complete the Front-End Track though.
Hope that helps, Cosmin
