Practice makes perfect

What is a good way to get some practice or homework to improve our skills

As I work through a track I like to make a list of extra functionality or features that could be added. Then when I've finished I go back and try to figure out how to implement them.

Or alternatively, once you have a completed track you can completely re-factor it to make your own. For example you are on the PHP track. Once you finish the Shirts for Mike site. Re-design it, or make your own as a umm.... "Shoes for Tony" site, or whatever you are into.
