problem with installing mamp

my Apache server does not go green when i start my servers on my mamp software. l have got the latest version of mamp. could it be because my php version is 5.5.3 and dont have any named cache? also realised that i am using mac os x 10.8.5 which comes with apache already installed in it. how to i resolve all these problem to get mamp working on my laptop to enable continue my adventure on this island? This could be a number of things from simple interference due to the applications you have running along side mamp or a firewall issue.... I personally couldn't say the exact issue but I would Google the issue and follow the steps provided.

I tend to always have issues installing most development software. With the help of Google your solution could be a few searches away.
