problems with getElementsById() selector

I cannot figure out why I am unable to select the gallery links. I don't understand why my code would not be working.

You wrote getElementsById, but an element can only have 1 ID, and IDs must be unique among all other elements. The function you're probably looking for is getElementById, which returns a single element
