Process of designing mobile first layout

I understand the concept of "mobile first", but is the designing procedure same as the procedure in these videos?

After watched bootstrap and foundation video, I have searched both bootstrap and foundation. Seems bootstrap3 supports "Mobile First" now. It makes me wondering what about bootstrap 2, doesn't it support "Mobile First"? How could I tell from the css file? What's the difference?

Thanks

Luke,

Your comment is correct. It is pure preference.

However in Bootstrap 3 they have added a lot of classes that are more geared toward mobile devices, such as zooming control, viewport meta tags, and added new classes to be used on a mobil breakpoint. They have also condensed most of the CSS so that the mobil CSS is combined with the normal CSS.

Do not take this the wrong way, but I believe you are overthinking this. Bootstrap 3 is a great framework and works well rather you build desktop down or mobil up. Give it a try and if you have issues let us know! :)

Thanks :)

Luke, I'm not sure I understand your question, but when designing any mock up of a site (whether I sketch it, use a photo editing program, or wireframes) I always design the mobile version first. This forces me to limit the content and really decide what is most important. It also makes it so much easier when scaling up to tablet and desktop sites. Let me know if that doesn't answer your question.

Thank you, Justin: I just edited my question. My "Mobile First" curiosity is from Boostrap. I always think "Mobile First" is just a design procedure, some designers prefer to design mobile first, some designers prefer to design desktop first, but they all use the same css file.

In Boostrap3 new features, it says: Nearly everything has been redesigned and rebuilt to start from your handheld devices and scale up.

This confuses me. What CSS code did they change to make Bootstrap 3 "Mobile First"?
