Process of web development

I was always confused on the process of developing a website. I've seen various procedures web designer takes but never one one for web developers. I know it depends from developer to developer, but what is some guidlines that I can follow off of. I plan on creating websites with wordpress and PHP. I already have a server, domain, wordpress installed, and theme but I don't know what to do from here on out.

Hi Gideon,

As a community of students I am sure most people will go with me on this.

  1. Be patient - take the time to start at the beginning as listen to the courses as they will help you develop best practice methods and
  2. Play, attempt, do...there is no better way than getting your hands dirty and learning from your mistakes.

what makes no sense is you haven't mentioned what your project is, what it looks like in the end. what kind of website is it and what are you trying to do?

Oh sorry for the confusion. I don't plan on doing anything crazy. I just want to build a simple portfolio just so I can get a grasp of things.

you should have already sketched out and if your really fancy, wireframed - what the page will look at the end and sketches and arrows of all the functionality. you have to know the end result first, then take it apart and think through all the pieces that build it up.
