Project portfolio, need opinions

Hello everyone, I need to find an internship, to reach this purpose, I'm building my own portfolio, I've "finished" the design step, and I'm about to code it now.

However I'm interested in having advices from experienced persons.

Here is my design, this is going to be a one page layout website.

http://users.skynet.be/fa341830/portfolio_preview.jpg

The navbar will be propably fixed.

My website is also going to include 3D / video games and etc... jobs I've done, that's why there are all those icons in the portfolio galery.

I want it to be responsive and I don't want to bother much whith css positioning, that's why I've chosen to use Cool kitten as "framework", It integrates as well stellar.js which is going to be useful for my one page layout website.

I have three questions in fact

  • What do you think overall ?
  • What do you think about the choice to use cool kitten ?
  • Finally, how would you create the progress bar ( I want them to be responsive too).

Best regards, and thank you in advance :)

Hi! I like your illustration, very nice. My first impression is that it is a bit heavy. What I mean by heavy is some elements could look even better with some "white space" around them. This would open up the design a little making it look a little more considered and direct their attention to the areas you want them to look at.

I like that you are looking for an internship, this is a great honest position to be in and you could use it a little, let me know what you have learnt on what projects and how what you enjoy.

Last note, check out the size of some of the icons, baners and boxes (http://viget.com/inspire/resizing-rounded-rectangles-in-photoshop). Maybe they would sit better a little smaller.

I look forward to seeing how you code it up and what you have done in your 3D/video game work!

Hi Geoffrey, first impression when I took a look was wow that looks amazing, and if I like anyone kept looking past those first few seconds there is always little things we would look at and change apart of human nature, but main thing for me was the first impression.

I am really looking forward to see how this turns out when constructed and you have a great start to work on so far. There will be small chance that you will make changes as you go along so I was just focusing on my first thoughts alone.

Good job! and best of luck :)

Thank you, I've done my best to have something looking ok. Thanks for your comments. For the way I'm going to code it up, it's a bit the difficultest part for me at the moment, that's why I'm here... to learn how to code web pages correctly.

As I've stated in my first post, I'm going to use the cool kitten framework... hope that's going to be good.

Hi all, I've worked in the meantime on my website, on the "coding", It's not yet finished, I still have to tweak it, add some images and etc... Here is the link http://users.skynet.be/fa341830/ (I still have to buy a domain name as you can see). Besides, if you find some spelling mistakes or sentences not correct grammatically, feel free to tell me, because english isn't my mother language so I make many mistakes.

Very impressive site. I really like what you have made.

Thank you very much Garrett. :)

I also think it's a great look, really like the progress bars for your skill levels - excellent idea! (I'd change "Photoshop & Illu" to "Photoshop & Illustrator" though).

Putting my editor hat on, I'd suggest a few text changes.

Change belgian to Belgian (capitalisation for proper nouns in US and UK English)

Change: Augustus 11 1986 to August 11, 1986

Change: I'm member of the LRDS collective, where I work as a texture artist on the short film Marcel et la lune, and I am... to: I'm a member of the LRDS collective, where I work*ed* as a texture artist on the short film Marcel et la Lune and I am...

I'd add a hyperlink to your Twitter account from the "Sometimes I tweet!" line.

Bonne chance/Veel geluk!

I use the present simple with "work" for the marcel et la lune project, because I still take part from time to time, when I have free time in fact... Maybe my sentence isn't good ? What should I change in this case ?

Thank you for your advices, I'll add a hyperlink as suggested even if the twitter icon already has one.

Merci, danku veel

;)
