Purpose of reduce?

Maybe it was stated in the video but if so I did not catch it. Is there an optimization reason for reduce or is it strictly for data visualization purposes?

Reduce is useful in many list operations, whether or not data visualization is involved. You might enjoy the Functional Python course where it is introduced.(along with two other important tools).
